Combined Cooling, Heating and Co-generation Project
The University Medical Center of Princeton (UMCP) required central heating and cooling capacity for their new facility located in Plainsboro, NJ. UMCP also requested that the facility be provided with co-generation capabilities.
Concord Engineering of Voorhees, NJ undertook the design/build responsibilities for the project and retained the services of Forest Electric NJ for all of the associated electrical work.The project was divided into (2) phases with the first phase incorporating the heating and cooling plant. The project included the installation of (4) centrifugal chillers. (4) boilers and all of the associated control wiring as designed by Rockwell Automation. Forest Electric was also responsible for the installation of (3) 2MW Caterpillar gensets with associated ISO gear operating at 4160 volts, (1) 13,200 volt 1200A distribution board, (3) 3000A 480Volt substations and all downstream distribution equipment operating at 480 volts or less.
All lighting, power and testing for the project was also provided by Forest Electric. The second phase of the project consisted of the installation of a 4.6MW Gas Turbine and HRSG unit manufactured by Solar. The project required close coordination between Solar, Concord, Forest Electric, Rockwell and Public Service Electric & Gas to assure that the unit functioned properly. The Solar unit went online in April, 2012.
