Value Delivered
Forest Electric New Jersey (Forest NJ) brought extensive energy-efficiency and electrical expertise to this solar array installation project, ultimately helping transform an unused rooftop space into a source of sustainable energy and future revenue. Greenhouse gases were reduced by more than 500,000 pounds per year, and the client’s electric bill was cut by a third.
Client Objectives
Service Tire Truck Center (STTC) sought to take advantage of state energy initiatives and federal tax credit programs by making their plants more sustainable and mitigating the energy-intensive core process that drives their business. This involved installing a solar array system that would reduce energy costs and help them achieve their business objectives while minimizing their corporate environmental impact.
Solutions
Forest NJ’s installation of a 165kW solar array at STTC’s Millville re-tread plant involved a number of energy solutions, including:
- Installation of 165W photovoltaic modules on the roof of the client’s 40,000-square-foot facility
- Installation of multiple 135kW inverters
- Careful planning and execution to help ensure STTC could take advantage of NJ energy policy and federal tax credits, allowing them to recoup 60 percent of the project outlay and earn a tax credit for the remaining expenditure
- Engineering the solar array installation to eventually allow STTC to sell their solar renewable energy credits to other companies and create a new revenue stream
Client Background
STTC is a commercial tire dealer and re-treader based in Bethlehem, PA, with 26 locations in six states and over 500 employees.
