Client Objectives
The Edison plant is crucial to the Times’ successful operation as one of the world’s premier daily newspapers. As such, they require a highly reliable and experienced electrical contractor to help ensure seamless operation at all times. The plant incorporates cutting-edge technology including mission-critical microwave and satellite communications, robotics equipment used for transporting large volumes of newsprint to their presses, and an advanced storage and retrieval system.
Solutions
Forest NJ’s maintained the electrical, technical, and lighting systems and performed a wide variety of capabilities and responsibilities, including:
- Controlling all planning requirements for the maintenance operations at the plant
- Providing a full-time training program for all electricians assigned to the account
- Offering maintenance service 24/7 by a staff of 48 electricians
- Monitoring and maintaining six 10-unit Gross Color Line presses
- Managing an innovative storage and retrieval system to support advance printing needs
- Developing ways to increase plant production in conjunction with the client’s internal staff
- Performing electrical construction and telecom/data work on a variety of ongoing projects, including a recent new redundant data center construction project
- Construction department consisting of 14 full-time electricians
