Client Objectives
The client needed mission-critical electrical solutions for a new cutting-edge substation to provide reliable utility power to a data center campus. Further, the client wanted to ensure the infrastructure could accommodate future growth at the campus.
Solutions
Our team provided complete electrical construction and project management services for a 69-kilovolt (kV) substation and associated medium-voltage distribution systems. The project involved the installation of critical high-voltage infrastructure, underground raceways, control systems, and provisions for future expansion.
The substation included a secondary 26-kV distribution system feeding two medium-voltage switchgear buildings, helping improve resiliency and redundancy at the campus. Each switchgear building was equipped with a 2,000-amp main breaker and three feeder breaker compartments to support the data center’s rigorous operational and reliability requirements.
Major project components included:
- Installation and placement of a 68,000-pound control house
- Installation of a Trenwa cable trench system
- Structural steel supports for the 69-kV ring bus and seven 69-kV circuit breakers
- Installation of multiple air-break and motor-operated switches
- Construction of a utility-compliant underground vault
- Additional conduit infrastructure and switch provisions to support future campus expansion
